Township Road Commission Meeting

Deepak Gupta and Sam SanMiguel from the Midland County Road
Commission attended this meeting to discuss the issues with Hull
Road. This is the section between Stark Road and Dublin Road that
was to be paved this summer. This spring they found some soft
spots that would need fixing before putting down the asphalt. They
had pictures which showed the bad spots. They also had some
pictures of Letts road that showed the asphalt that was broke up
after only one winter. This road is in the Midland city limits and
was done by the city of Midland. Both Deepak and Sam feel that
soft spots on Letts road similar to the areas on Hull road was the
cause of the asphalt breaking up. They recommend that the township
not pave this road until repairs are done to the soft spots.
Suggested repairs could be putting tile down the middle of the
road where the spots are to allow drainage. They estimate this
would cost the township $2000.00. Another repair would be to put
mats down which requires digging up the bad spots. This method is
expensive as there is a lot more labor involved. Whichever method
is chosen, they say that the road should go through another winter
to see if repairs did work.
Both Deepak and Sam feel that there are no issues with Baker Rd.
and that it is ready for asphalt.

The township and road committee thanks Deepak and Sam for

Recommendations from the road committee.
Pave Baker road between Stark and Dublin roads in 2010. (This road
was approved by Township board to be done in 2011.)
Get an estimate from the Midland County Road Commission for
putting down tile on Hull Rd.
Get an estimate from the Midland County Road Commission for
putting down matting on Hull Rd.
Have estimates in time for the April 13th, 2010 Township board
meeting.
One of the topics for this meeting was to discuss what to do with
$31,000.00 left over from the road fund. Depending on the decision
of which repairs will be made to Hull road, there may not be any
money leftover in 2010.
Township to see if Road Commission can put some gravel on 5 Mile
Rd. north of Valerie Smith's driveway. We have an estimate from
the spring of 2009 for putting gravel on 5 Mi. the 1st half
mile North of Curtis road. This was to be discussed at this
meeting.
Discussion on brining of roads for dust control. People were told
to contact township supervisor or township clerk.
No date set for next meeting.
