August 5, 2008 will be the primary and the time that the mileage
renewal will be voted on. The mileage renewal will be ~1.9 mils
(the same amount as in the past).
Next meeting will be the 3rd Thursday of September,
18th which will be after the primary. This meeting
will be the time the final recommendation for the 2009 spending
will come from the Road Committee which will go to the Township
Board.
Other business:
Michigan campaign and finance act: a Township board and members
can provide information but not make recommendations. As
members of this committee, members can provide information about
Township committee information. We can also make
recommendations with our own time as to how Township people
should vote. We cannot use Township funds to promote how
Township people should vote. Township funds can encourage be to
“vote” but not how to vote. Therefore, if the committee wanted
to encourage people to vote “yes” on the road mileage then the
money would have to come from people not the Township.
Motion: Purchase or construct signs that encourage Township
people to vote on the renewal of the road mileage, up to $100.
Sign could say: “Hope Road Mileage Renewal; vote on August 5”.
Also consider placing “information” on the website regarding
previous road work. Seconded…passed. Jim will look into the
cost of signs.
2008 Project costs:
East Midland County line road $73,021
East Baker road upgrade gravel $151,500
