Hope Township Board Meeting
March 14, 2006

Mike Kressler - Supervisor                  Joe Lunsford - Treasurer                 JoAnn Wilkie – Clerk

Bob Davis – Trustee                         Elgin Childs - Trustee

CALL TO ORDER

The Supervisor called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.

  1. BUSINESS FROM FLOOR:

Rudy Turk was present and is still having problems with drainage by his house. This spring has been more of a problem with water because of the amount of snow and rain that has fallen in the last few weeks prior to the spring warm-up. The board agrees there is a drainage problem there, but the county drain commissioner will have to be contacted and go through the paper work there. Board will do whatever possible to help Rudy with this situation.

  2. CLERK’S MINUTES:

Minutes were dispersed before meeting and posted on the website. Bob moved and Elgin seconded to approve minutes. Motion carried.

  3. TREASURER’S REPORT:

Joe dispersed the report before the meeting was called to order. After discussion of finances, Elgin moved to accept report, and Bob seconded. Motion carried. Joe reported that 91% of taxes were collected by March 1, 2006.

A discussion was held concerning a request to remove the solid waste from 1497 Stark Road. The people have not moved in yet and will not be moving in until a job is found. The decision to put the fee on was decided since they will be coming up to clean and move things in, and a job could come in a month. The Township does not do a percentage on solid waste for people who leave for the winter and we do not want to start a percentage on solid waste. It was moved by Elgin and seconded by Bob to leave solid waste fee on, and a roll call vote was polled:

DEPARTMENT REPORTS

  1. FIRE DEPARTMENT:

February had eight runs. A total of 85 hours was put in by the firefighters. The clearance of the roadway into the birches was discussed again. A letter was sent to the chair of the birches organization stating that with the present state of the roadway, a fire truck would not be able to get to a burning home. Hope Township Supervisor will talk with residents and see if anything different would be feasible. A new law has come from the state for the fire code making it mandatory that any home being built since 1974 must have a fire detector. Jim’s list of things needed for the Fire Department included a generator and a garage door opener. Need to get wording for fire millage for August election. It has to be in to county clerk by May 30. A thank you goes to Mike Kressler who has cleaned up the papers and junk around the burned trailer situation. A motion was made by Elgin for $600.00 for petty cash and was seconded by Bob. Motion carried.

  2. PARK COMMISSION:

The decision to charge non-residents for reserving the park was decided against. At this time reserving will remain as it has in the past. Major project this year will be to finish ball diamonds. With ball team moving into Midland, there will be a greater need for the teams to use the township ball diamonds. Steven Braley has accepted the park Caretaker position. The salary has been changed to $800.00 a month. Hoping the next park meeting will be held at park.

  3. PLANNING COMMISSION:

April 5 will be next meeting at township hall.

  4. WATER DISTRIBUTION:

    No news reported

  5. CHAPEL COMMITEE:

  6. TOWNSHIP CODE AUTHORITY:

  7. WIXOM LAKE IMPROVEMENT BOARD REPORT:

    No meeting

  8. ROAD ADVISORY COMMITTEE REPORT:

The roads were bad, and not a good turnout. There were three from the Road Advisory Committee, so meeting was held.

  9. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Clean up for cemetery is April 15. Joe moved to have Don Dice do clean up and repair work at the cemetery and town hall, and placement of flags on cemetery for Memorial Day. It was seconded by Bob Davis, and motion carried.
